Ginger My First Chihuahua
Ginger was my first dog, a deer head Chihuahua. She was the one who adopted me. I never wanted a small dog, I always saw myself with a German Shepherd. When she first arrived at Sophie’s dog adoption, she spent the first 3 days under the kitchen table.
Ginger was my first dog, a deer head Chihuahua. She was the one who adopted me. I never wanted a small dog, I always saw myself with a German Shepherd. But that all changed when I met Ginger.
A feisty Little Chihuahua she would bite everyone. That’s why she was surrendered by her previous family.
She comes from the Toronto SPCA. When she first arrived at Sophie’s dog adoption, she spent the first 3 days under the kitchen table. She was petrified of everyone.
One afternoon after work I was eating a sandwich, Ginger started eating it, from the other end of the sandwich, as I ate my half.
Since then we became best friends. One day Sophie sees me petting Ginger and she freaks out saying, careful she’s going to bite you real hard. I said what this cute Chihuahua, no way!
The way Ginger would look at me I always suspected we met sometime before in another life.
Ginger would never really bite me unless I really deserved the bite, she would bite everyone else without reason. For years Sophie tried feeding her daily and we figured Ginger was not going to bite the hand that feeds her. She was extremely food motivated but the second you ran out of food she would bite.
That’s a useless myth, Ginger took a chunk out of Sophie’s ear one morning while Sophie was sleeping, Ginger decided she wanted to sleep under the pillow.
Other than that, I had a horse named Fancy and a fish named St Elois.
Ginger passed away, and of course it was a difficult moment. However there was already a new Chihuahua being fostered. So I decided to keep him.
My second Chihuahua is named Taquito, he’s a toothless deer head that weighs under 3 lb.
Now I’m always going to have Chihuahuas, they just fit in my kangaroo bag and I can take them wherever I want, and nobody knows as Taquito sleeps in the bottom of the bag.
