First of all, congratulations! Following the lines of the famous Native American Orangemen schooled by the white man, this is the first indigenous female to get a Rhodes scholarship.

CTV News should know better than to use the term First Nation, the Indigenous I’ve had the chance to speak with about this do not like the term First Nation. They don’t consider themselves a nation or the first.

Who’s the first nation? Is it the Mohawks? Is it the Seneca? Is it the Hurons? What about the Anishinaabe? It’s the Iroquois Confederacy, not Iroquois Nation. And what about the Metis and the Inuit who are not included in this First Nation ideology of the 1970s because they have no Indian status?

Let’s not forget that Kahnawake was created by the Jesuits. I ask myself, did the Jesuits build the nation of Kahnawake?
